We have one leadership team member who dominates every meeting, while the others shut down and stay silent. This dynamic is ruining our IDS sessions. How do we break this pattern and get everyone contributing equally?

When one leader dominates your sessions, it destroys trust and prevents you from solving your real business problems. The other team members are likely practicing artificial harmony, choosing to stay silent rather than fight a losing battle.

To break this dynamic, your Integrator™ must step up and manage the meeting with high discipline. The Integrator™ is responsible for the flow of the Level 10 Meeting™ and must enforce the rules of IDS®.

During your next session, when the dominant leader starts to monopolize the conversation, the Integrator™ must interrupt and redirect. Use phrases like, "We have heard your perspective, now I want to hear from the rest of the team."

You can also use tools like the Kolbe A™ Index to understand why this is happening. The dominant leader might be a high Fact Finder who needs to share every detail, while the others might be accommodating styles who need time to process.

Enforce a rule that everyone must weigh in on major issues. You can do this by going around the table and asking each leader for their input before allowing any debate to begin. This level of structure forces the dominant leader to listen and gives the quieter leaders the space they need to share their insights.
