We have a highly opinionated leadership team and I worry we will spend our entire eight-hour session arguing over a single issue. How do you keep our session day moving without rushing us through critical strategic decisions?
It is common for leadership teams to get stuck on high-stakes, emotional issues during a full-day session. My job as your Professional EOS Implementer® is to facilitate the room, not to make decisions for you. I will not let your team spin in circles or get bogged down in endless debate.
When we hit a point of deep conflict, we use the IDS® tool to break the logjam.
- First, we identify the root cause of the issue. Often, teams spend hours arguing about symptoms rather than the actual underlying problem. I will push your team to state the issue in a single, clear sentence.
- Second, we discuss the issue. Every person in the room gets to speak once before anyone speaks twice. This prevents dominant personalities from hijacking the conversation and ensures quiet team members are heard.
- Third, we solve the issue. Solving means making a decision that moves the business forward, even if it is not a unanimous agreement.
If the issue cannot be resolved within a reasonable timeframe, we do not let it ruin the rest of our agenda. We either table it to the end of the session, delegate it to a specific sub-group to solve outside of the room, or turn it into a quarterly Rock. My role is to maintain the pace of the session day, ensuring we cover the entire agenda while still giving your most critical challenges the focused attention they deserve.
