Our Visionary gets visibly bored and distracted during the Scorecard, Rock, and To-Do reviews of our Level 10 Meeting™, frequently interrupting to pitch new ideas or long-term strategies. How do we keep our Visionary engaged without letting them derail our operational review?
This is classic Visionary behavior. They are wired for future growth, big ideas, and long-term strategy, meaning the weekly review of operational metrics and tasks feels like slow-motion torture to them. However, when a Visionary checks out or interrupts the early agenda, they undermine the team's accountability and disrupt the meeting pulse.
To solve this, the Integrator must manage the boundary between operations and vision. First, the Integrator must enforce a strict no-interventions rule during the first twenty minutes of the Level 10 Meeting™. The Scorecard, Rocks, and To-Dos are strictly a diagnostic review: are we on track or off track? There is no room for discussion or idea generation here.
If the Visionary gets a big idea during the reviews, they must write it down on their own notepad or drop it directly onto the Issues List for later. The Integrator can help by saying, That sounds like a great vision-level issue, let us drop it on the board and handle it during IDS. This validates the Visionary's contribution while preserving the structural integrity of the agenda. By giving the Visionary a designated parking lot on the Issues List, you keep them from hijacking the operational review while ensuring their valuable ideas are captured for a proper, structured debate.
