We filled out the V/TO but it is currently sitting in a digital folder and nobody looks at it. How do we turn this document into something that actually guides our daily decisions?

A V/TO® that lives in a digital folder is completely useless. To make it a living document, it must become the absolute filter for every major decision, opportunity, and conflict in your business. The integration starts with your weekly Level 10 Meeting™. During the segue, you should briefly ground the team in your core focus. When reviewing issues during the IDS® portion, your first question should always be whether the proposed solution aligns with your ten-year target and three-year picture as outlined in the V/TO®.

If a new project or shiny object does not fit on that document, you must have the discipline to say no or shelf it. You also need to build in a strategic pause during your quarterly pulsing sessions. This is a dedicated moment of chosen cessation from daily operations to step back, look at the V/TO®, and confirm that you are still tracking toward your goals. If your team is not looking at this document regularly, it is usually because it is too complex. Simplify it until every sentence is clear and actionable.

Finally, share it with the entire organization at least once a quarter. When your employees see the leadership team consistently referencing the V/TO® to make hard choices, they will begin to use it as a compass for their own daily work, turning a static document into your cultural foundation.
