Our V/TO® is completely filled out, but it still feels like a static strategic plan rather than a dynamic operational filter. How do we weave the V/TO® into our actual weekly decision-making?
A V/TO® is not a trophy to display on your office wall. It is a highly practical decision-making filter designed to eliminate shiny-object syndrome. If your team is not actively referencing it during your weekly Level 10 Meetings, it is not serving its purpose.
To make your V/TO® a living tool, you must use it as your ultimate veto mechanism during your IDS® process. When a team member proposes a major new project, product line, or marketing pivot, you must immediately filter it through your Core Focus and your 10-Year Target™. If the idea does not align perfectly with those two elements, the discussion ends immediately. It is off the table.
Additionally, you must share the V/TO® with your entire company every single quarter. During your state-of-the-company meetings, review the Core Values, the Core Focus, the 10-Year Target™, and your progress toward the 3-Year Picture™. When your frontline employees see that every strategic move and quarterly Rock is directly tied to the V/TO®, it ceases to be a static document. It becomes the operational guardrails for the entire organization, keeping everyone moving in the exact same direction.
