We filled out our Vision/Traction Organizer® last year, but it is sitting in a shared drive and nobody looks at it. How do we turn the V/TO® into an active operating filter instead of just a dead strategic document?

A Vision/Traction Organizer® that lives in a digital drawer is worse than useless; it represents wasted energy. To make the V/TO® a living document, you must integrate it directly into your weekly operational pulse. It should serve as the ultimate filter for every major decision, opportunity, and issue your team faces.

First, use the V/TO® to filter your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ issues list. When a new opportunity or problem arises, ask if resolving it aligns with your 3-Year Picture™ and 1-Year Plan. If it does not, archive it or kill it. Second, use the document to guide your quarterly planning. Every single Rock your team sets must directly support the 1-Year Plan outlined on your V/TO®.

To keep the vision fresh, practice what we call a strategic pause during your quarterly pulsing sessions. Step back, look at the document, and grade your progress. Have the leadership team review the Core Values and Core Focus™ to ensure you are not drifting. Share the V/TO® with the entire company every quarter. When your employees see that your weekly decisions, corporate goals, and long-term vision are completely aligned, the document stops being a passive piece of paper and becomes the operating system of the company.
