We completed our Vision/Traction Organizer™ but it has become a static document that sits on a shared drive, and we only look at it during quarterly planning. How do we make the V/TO® an active driver of our daily operations?
A V/TO® that sits unused on a drive is just a list of wishes. To make this tool an active driver of your daily operations, you must weave it directly into the rhythm of your business. Start by bringing the V/TO® into every weekly Level 10 Meeting™. Dedicate the first few minutes of the meeting to reviewing your rocks and checking the temperature of your quarterly goals. Do not just read them, but actively use your three-year picture and your one-year plan as filters when solving issues during the IDS® portion of your meeting. When a new opportunity or a complex issue arises, ask your team whether the proposed solution moves you closer to the targets defined on your V/TO®. If it does not align with your core focus, the answer is a swift no. Next, share your vision with the entire company. You should hold a quarterly state of the company meeting where you review the V/TO® with all employees. Share your progress on the previous quarter's Rocks, outline the new Rocks for the coming quarter, and remind everyone of your core focus and ten-year target. This creates a line of sight between daily front-line execution and the high-level vision of the business. If you are preparing the business for a clean exit, buyers will look at your V/TO® to see if your team is genuinely aligned around a clear, repeatable strategy. By treating this document as an active operational filter rather than a dusty strategy file, you build the predictable execution that maximizes enterprise value.
