We filled out the V/TO® but our managers still make tactical decisions that go against our long-term plan. How do we turn this vision into a strict operational gatekeeper instead of a paper exercise?

The reason most business visions fail is that they live in a digital folder that nobody opens. To make the V/TO® an active operational gatekeeper, you must integrate it into your weekly and quarterly decision-making framework. Start by using the V/TO® to filter every major opportunity and issue that comes to your leadership team. When someone proposes a new product, a new market, or a major capital expense, the first question must always be how this aligns with our Core Focus and our Target Market. If it does not align, the conversation ends immediately. Use the document to say no. A strong vision is more about what you decide not to do than what you decide to do. You must also review the V/TO® at the start of every single Quarterly Pulsing session. Read the Core Values, the Core Focus, and the Ten Year Target aloud. This re-anchors the team before you set new Rocks. Finally, cascade this down. Every department must understand how their weekly activities directly support the One Year Plan and Three Year Picture described in the V/TO®. When your frontline employees can connect their daily tasks to the long-term destination of the company, the document becomes the operational engine of the business.
