We completed our V/TO but it still feels like a marketing statement rather than an operational filter. How do we make sure our company vision actually dictates which clients we sign and which products we kill?
To transform your V/TO® from a static digital document into an active operational filter, you must use it as a strict gatekeeper for every strategic decision you make. This means your Core Focus™ and Target Market must have teeth. They must be used to actively say no to opportunities that do not fit your long-term model, even when those opportunities look highly profitable in the short term.
Start by introducing the V/TO into your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ during the issues solving portion. Whenever a new project, prospective client, or product idea is brought to the table, your first step must be to filter it through your Core Focus. Ask your team if this opportunity aligns with your purpose and niche. If it does not, you must have the discipline to kill it immediately.
Additionally, use your V/TO to evaluate your current client roster and product lines. Run an audit to see which of your existing accounts fall outside your defined Target Market. If they are draining your team conatively and dragging down your profitability, build a plan to transition away from them. When your team sees you walk away from a bad-fit client or a distracting new product because it violates the V/TO, they will realize the document is a real operational compass. It shifts your company culture from reactive chasing to focused, disciplined execution.
