We spent two days filling out our V/TO® but it still feels like a theoretical planning exercise rather than something our managers use to run their departments. How do we build the weekly operational bridge between our long-term vision and our frontline execution?

A V/TO that lives in a digital folder is just an expensive wish list. To turn your V/TO from a static document into an operational compass, you must integrate it directly into your weekly meeting rhythm. The bridge between your long-term vision and your daily execution is built through your quarterly Rocks and your weekly Level 10 Meeting.

Every week during your Level 10 Meeting, your leadership team reviews your Scorecard and your Rocks. Each of those Rocks must directly support your one-year plan, which in turn must support your three-year picture. If a Rock does not align with your V/TO, it should not be on your list. Furthermore, when your team is identifying, discussing, and solving issues during the IDS portion of your meeting, the V/TO must be the ultimate filter. If a proposed solution or a new opportunity does not fit your Core Focus or align with your Target Market, the discussion is over. The answer is a fast, objective no.

To cascade this down, your department heads must share the company's V/TO with their teams every single quarter. This keeps the entire organization aligned. When every employee knows the company's target and can see how their individual weekly numbers and quarterly priorities contribute to that goal, the V/TO ceases to be a strategic document and becomes the active operating system of your business.
