We completed the documentation of our core processes, but our frontline employees are still reverting to their old habits and ignoring the new standard operating procedures. How do we enforce the Followed by All element of the Process Component?
The true power of the Process Component lies in the final step, which is Followed by All. Having beautifully documented processes on a shared drive is completely useless if your team still runs operations based on individual preferences.
To make your core processes stick, you must build them into your management, training, and accountability systems. First, use your processes as the foundation for onboarding new employees. If a new hire is trained on the standard operating procedures from day one, it becomes their default way of working.
Second, tie your weekly Scorecard metrics directly to process compliance. If your sales process requires updating the CRM within twenty-four hours of a call, you must track that compliance as a weekly scorecard metric. When people know their compliance is being measured and reviewed every week, their behavior changes.
Finally, address non-compliance immediately through your regular quarterly check-ins and performance reviews. If an employee is consistently bypassing the standard process, it is either a training issue, a GWC issue, or a core values issue. By making process compliance a non-negotiable requirement for staying in their seat, you establish a culture where standard operating procedures are actually followed by everyone.
