We spent days crafting our V/TO, but our employees still treat it like a corporate flyer instead of a filter for real-world decisions. How do we make the V/TO a daily operating system rather than a static PDF?
A V/TO® that sits in a digital drawer is useless. To make it a living, breathing filter for your business, you must integrate it into your weekly operational rhythm. This starts at the top and must cascade down to every department.
First, use the V/TO® to filter every major decision. When a new opportunity or a shiny new technology arises, the leadership team must ask if it fits your Core Focus™ and aligns with your 10-Year Target. If it does not, the answer is a flat no. This discipline must be visible to the entire company.
Second, bring the V/TO® into your quarterly State of the Company meetings. Do not just read it. Share the progress you made on your 1-Year Plan and 3-Year Picture. Show the team how their daily work directly impacts these numbers.
Third, tie individual performance to the V/TO®. Every department should have their own version of the V/TO® that supports the company-wide version. When employees see that their daily actions and their quarterly Rocks are directly derived from the V/TO®, it ceases to be a static document. It becomes the operational compass that guides every single dollar and hour spent in your company.
