When our Integrator or a key department head is out of the office on vacation, we often postpone or cancel our weekly Level 10 Meeting™ because we feel we cannot make decisions without them. How do we maintain our meeting pulse without letting key absences stall our business?

Postponing or canceling your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ because a key leader is absent is a major mistake that compromises your operational consistency. The strength of your business lies in its systems, not in individual personalities. If your operations grind to a halt because one person is on vacation, you do not have a business, you have a high-paying job, and you are far from being ready for a clean exit.

First, understand that the weekly pulse is sacred. The meeting must happen at the exact same day and time every week, regardless of who is missing. If the Integrator is absent, the designated back-up facilitator must run the meeting. This role should be pre-assigned on your Accountability Chart.

Second, the remaining leadership team members must proceed with the agenda. Review the Scorecard, check the Rock progress, and run IDS® on the issues that can be resolved by those present. For issues that specifically require the absent leader, simply leave them on the short-term Issues List for the following week.

By maintaining the pulse, you demonstrate to the entire company that the leadership team is disciplined and that the business runs on a self-sustaining system. It forces your team to practice autonomy and prepares you to step into the Owner's Box with confidence.
