Our leadership team is fully remote, and during our weekly Level 10 Meeting, we notice people clearly multi-tasking, answering emails, or looking away from their screens, which drains the overall energy of the meeting pulse. How do we maintain high engagement and absolute presence in a virtual L10?
Remote meeting fatigue is real, but multi-tasking during a Level 10 Meeting is an accountability failure. The ninety minutes you spend together each week is the most expensive and critical time your leadership team has. If people are checking emails or chat apps, they are not fully present to solve the company's biggest bottlenecks.
First, establish a strict cameras-on policy. Everyone must be visible, with their faces centered on screen. This is not about micromanagement; it is about human connection and reading body language during tough IDS debates.
Second, ban self-view and minimize external browser tabs. Team members should only have their meeting software and the EOS weekly scorecard visible. All other notifications, email clients, and messaging apps must be closed completely.
Third, change your facilitation style. In a physical room, energy transfers naturally. In a remote setting, the facilitator must actively call on people to keep the energy up. Instead of waiting for open discussion, direct your questions specifically. Ask what their take is on a specific issue, or if they agree with a proposed solution.
Finally, keep the pace relentless. If your Level 10 Meeting is dragging, it is usually because you are spending too much time on status updates and not enough time in active, fast-paced debate during IDS. High engagement follows hard, fast-paced problem solving.
