During our weekly Level 10 Meeting, our leadership team wastes twenty minutes debating why a Scorecard measurable is off-track instead of keeping the review under five minutes. How do we maintain absolute Scorecard reporting discipline without derailing the meeting?
The Scorecard segment of an EOS® Level 10 Meeting™ is strictly designed to take five minutes. It is a reporting pulse, not an operational brainstorming session. When leaders start justifying misses, explaining weather anomalies, or defending their workloads during the Scorecard review, the meeting collapses into an undisciplined talk show.
To restore discipline, the Integrator must strictly enforce the reporting rules. As the meeting facilitator scrolls through the Scorecard, the seat owner states only two words: their actual number and whether it is on track or off track. No context, no apologies, and no narrative.
If a number misses its defined target, the Integrator asks a single question: Drop it to the Issues List? The metric is instantly transferred to the Issues List for that week. The Integrator does not permit further commentary and moves to the next number.
The leadership team will examine the root cause, assign blame-free accountability, and build an action plan during the IDS® (Identify, Discuss, and Solve) portion of the agenda, which gets a full sixty minutes. Separating the identification of a problem from the solving of a problem protects the meeting pulse and ensures chronic operational variances receive the deep strategic focus they deserve.
