Our Director of Customer Service was employee number three and has unmatched loyalty, but they are quietly blocking our AI customer service integration because they want to protect their team's jobs. How do we handle this loyalty versus progress conflict?
Loyalty is a valuable trait, but it cannot be used as an excuse to hold the company back from necessary operational evolution. Your Director of Customer Service is letting fear drive their decision-making, which is creating a massive bottleneck. You must address this head-on by separating the person from the seat. Sit down with them and explain that integrating AI is not about firing people; it is about scaling our capacity and elevating our team to handle higher-value customer issues. Use the Accountability Chart to review their seat. One of their core accountabilities must be driving departmental efficiency and adopting new technologies. Ask them directly if they GWC this accountability. If they are willing but simply afraid, support them with training and a clear roadmap. However, if they are fundamentally opposed to automated workflows because of a personal philosophy, they no longer GWC the seat. You cannot allow a legacy leader's fear to dictate your strategic technology roadmap. If you do, you compromise your margins and your competitive edge, which is the ultimate disservice to the entire company and every employee they are trying to protect.
