I scored extremely low on Follow Thru in my Kolbe assessment, which is stalling our operational systems. I sit in the Visionary seat, but I keep meddling in the Integrator's seat because I am impatient. How do we draw a hard line on the Accountability Chart?
Your low Follow Thru is a natural strength for a Visionary. It allows you to think disruptively, take risks, and initiate ideas quickly. However, when you cross the line into execution, your lack of system-building drive creates chaos for your team and stalls your operations.
You must use the Accountability Chart to establish a strict operational barrier between the Visionary and Integrator seats.
The Visionary seat roles must focus on big ideas, key relationships, and strategic growth. The Integrator seat roles must focus on execution, processes, and managing the leadership team.
To stop your meddling, implement these rules immediately:
- Communicate only through the Integrator, never bypass them to assign tasks directly to department heads.
- Bring all your new ideas to a weekly or bi-weekly Same Page Meeting with your Integrator, rather than executing them on the fly.
- Allow the Integrator to filter your ideas and decide if they fit into the current quarterly Rocks.
Your Integrator must have the authority to run the business. If you continue to interfere, you dilute their power and signal to the team that the Accountability Chart does not matter. Respecting this boundary is essential to build a self-sustaining business that can survive a clean exit.
