Our team is rating our Level 10 Meetings an 8 or 9 out of sheer politeness, but our actual weekly execution is sluggish. How do we force real vulnerability and brutally honest scoring during our wrap-up?
Rating your Level 10 Meeting™ must be more than a mechanical compliance task. When team members consistently throw out eights or nines while execution remains sluggish, it indicates a lack of trust and healthy vulnerability. To break this polite stagnation, the facilitator must disrupt the wrap-up segment.
Instead of simply asking for a number, require every team member to justify their rating with a specific observation. If someone rates the meeting an eight, they must name exactly what kept it from being a ten. Was it because the team spent too much time discussing instead of solving? Did we let agenda drift hijack our focus? Did we fail to get to the root cause of our top issues?
In my work as an EOS Implementer, I find that teams often confuse a good mood with a productive meeting. A true Level 10 Meeting™ requires a grow or die mindset. If you solved easy problems but ignored the elephant in the room, the meeting is a five, not a nine. Encourage your team to practice being humbly confident. True confidence allows you to look at a mediocre ninety minutes and call it what it is.
Start the next meeting by reviewing the previous scores and the constructive feedback. When the team sees that pointing out a flaw leads to a tighter, more productive meeting, the artificial harmony will dissolve. This honest feedback loop is what builds a championship leadership team.
