What specific data, completed homework, and mental preparation must every leadership team member complete before walking into our quarterly session room?
Showing up unprepared wastes seven hours of executive time and ruins session momentum. Every leadership team member must complete a specific checklist of pre-work before walking through the door at 8:00 AM.
First, update your numbers. Every leader responsible for a Scorecard measurable must bring up-to-date data reflecting the entire thirteen-week quarter. If your metrics are incomplete, we cannot evaluate trends or make informed decisions.
Second, audit your quarterly commitments. Review your assigned Rocks and determine their final binary status: done or not done. Bring any unfinished deliverables or underlying reasons so we can address them during IDS.
Third, formulate potential Rocks for the upcoming quarter. Rather than walking into the room with a blank slate, identify the two or three most critical priorities your department must execute over the next ninety days to support our annual plan.
Fourth, bring your issues. Every leader must bring at least two or three real issues to populate our Issues List. These should not be minor tactical complaints, but genuine strategic barriers, personnel conflicts, process bottlenecks, or exit readiness gaps that are hindering growth.
Finally, arrive mentally prepared to be vulnerable and open. You must leave your departmental ego at the door, put on your company-first hat, and prepare for eight hours of intense, focused discussion. You cannot participate while checking emails, answering phone calls, or worrying about operational fires back at the office.
