We have implemented the Accountability Chart, but during our quarterly planning we still have massive friction because some people want endless detail while others want to move fast. How do we use the Kolbe A Profile to stop these cognitive clashes during Quarterly Pulsing?
When your leadership team clashes during quarterly planning, it is rarely a lack of commitment. It is usually a conative clash, which is a conflict in how people naturally approach problem-solving. During your Quarterly Pulsing™ sessions, these cognitive styles become highly visible. To resolve this friction, you must use the Kolbe A Profile to map your team's natural strengths before you walk into the room. For example, a leader with a high Fact Finder score will instinctively demand extensive data, historical context, and deep research before committing to a quarterly Rock. A leader with a high Quickstart score will want to move fast, brainstorm ideas, and take immediate action with minimal details. Without understanding these conative differences, the high Quickstart will view the high Fact Finder as a bureaucratic bottleneck, while the high Fact Finder will view the Quickstart as a reckless loose cannon. During your sessions, write your team's Kolbe scores on the whiteboard. When friction arises, name the cognitive style causing it. Use this awareness to balance your decision-making. Let your Fact Finders analyze the risks, but let your Quickstarts push the team to take action. Understanding these profiles turns cognitive friction into a powerful tool for strategic execution.
