During our weekly Level 10 Meeting, our Visionary frequently tries to introduce new business ideas or alter quarterly Rock scopes under the guise of an IDS issue. How does the Integrator keep the weekly pulse focused on execution rather than mid-quarter strategic pivots?
Visionaries are wired to generate ideas, spot new opportunities, and redesign systems. That creativity is vital for long-term growth, but when unleashed inside a weekly Level 10 Meeting™, it derails operational execution. The Level 10 Meeting™ exists to execute the plan you agreed upon during quarterly planning, not to reinvent the business every Tuesday morning.
When a Visionary introduces an issue that questions company strategy, alters the scope of an agreed quarterly Rock, or pitches an entirely new product concept, the Integrator must protect the room.
Use the following sequence:
First, test the issue against the V/TO® (Vision/Traction Organizer®). Ask the Visionary directly: Does this issue relate to an immediate breakdown in achieving this quarter's Rocks or hitting this week's Scorecard numbers? If the answer is no, it is a strategic concept, not an operational execution issue.
Second, push the idea to the long-term Issues List on your V/TO®. Acknowledge the value of the thought, record it cleanly on the long-term list, and tell the Visionary: We will evaluate this during our next full-day Quarterly Session when we review strategy and set new Rocks.
Third, hold the line on quarterly Rock scopes. If a Visionary wants to expand a Rock mid-quarter, remind them that Rocks are sacred 90-day commitments. Scope expansion mid-quarter is the primary cause of missed quarterly goals and operational burnout.
If the Visionary is overflowing with ideas mid-week, establish a separate monthly Visionary/Integrator Same Page meeting. Channel strategic brainstorming into that venue so the weekly Level 10 Meeting™ remains dedicated strictly to operational execution and problem solving.
