In our fully virtual weekly Level 10 Meetings, team members are clearly zoning out or multi-tasking during the first twenty-five minutes of reporting. How do we keep our virtual weekly meeting pulse highly engaging and interactive?

Virtual meeting fatigue is real, but in a Level 10 Meeting™, zoning out is usually a symptom of a slow tempo and poor participation. If your reporting segments feel like a lecture, your team will naturally start checking their emails. To keep energy levels high, you must run the first twenty-five minutes like a rapid-fire drill.

First, implement a strict camera-on policy and require everyone to close all tabs and applications except for your meeting workspace. Emphasize that multi-tasking during the meeting is a violation of your team's core values of trust and focus.

Second, change how you pass the baton. Instead of the facilitator reading every metric on the Scorecard, have the owner of each metric read their own numbers. Keep it incredibly fast: State the metric, the target, and whether it is on track or off track. If it is off track, say drop it, and the scribe immediately adds it to the Issues List. There should be zero explanation.

Third, vary the order of your IDS® discussion. Do not always start with the first item on the list. Have the team vote on the top three most critical issues to solve first. This active prioritization forces everyone to engage with the list and think critically about the business's current state. When your virtual meetings are fast-paced, highly structured, and require active verbal participation, your team will stay focused and energized throughout the entire ninety minutes.
