Our Visionary is starting to skip our weekly Level 10 Meetings because they claim the tactical updates are a waste of their creative energy. How do we keep the Visionary engaged in the weekly pulse without draining them?
Your Visionary cannot skip the weekly Level 10 Meeting™. Their absence creates a dangerous gap in alignment, leaving the Integrator and the rest of the leadership team guessing whether their daily operational decisions still align with the long-term vision.
However, the Visionary's complaint is often valid. If your weekly pulse is bogged down in dry reporting and administrative updates, it will drain a Visionary's energy. To keep them engaged, you must ensure the meeting is highly focused on solving critical, strategic issues during IDS®.
First, ensure the reporting sections are lightning-fast. The scorecard, Rock review, and headlines should take no more than fifteen minutes combined. This leaves sixty full minutes for high-level problem-solving.
Second, leverage the Visionary's unique ability during IDS®. They should not be involved in the micro-details of how a to-do gets executed, but their perspective is invaluable for identifying the root causes of complex, systemic issues.
If the Visionary still struggles to stay focused, the Integrator must manage them directly. Remind the Visionary that their presence is a powerful signal of commitment to the rest of the team. They do not need to run the meeting, but they must be in the room to ensure the traction of the business remains aligned with their vision.
