Our virtual Level 10 Meeting™ feels flat and lacks the physical energy of our past in-person sessions, which leads to passive listening and slow problem-solving. How do we inject high energy and maintain a rapid pace in a remote environment?
Remote meetings fail when team members fall into a passive spectator mindset. To fix this, you must adopt a leader-leader model where every participant has an active role in maintaining the meeting's momentum.
First, change how you facilitate. In a virtual space, silence is a momentum killer. The facilitator must call on people directly rather than asking open-ended questions to the entire screen. This keeps everyone alert and prevents awkward pauses where people talk over each other.
Second, keep the visual focus dynamic. Do not stare at a shared screen of your meeting software for the entire ninety minutes. Have the facilitator stop screen-sharing during the IDS® portion so everyone can see each other's faces clearly on the grid. This restores the human connection and makes it easier to read body language and facial expressions during tough debates.
Finally, set a high standard of personal preparation. Every team member must update their metrics and Rocks before the meeting starts. When you enter the virtual room, the reporting section should be lightning-fast, leaving maximum time for highly interactive, energetic problem-solving.
