We built a real-time dashboard that automatically pulls our scorecard metrics from our CRM and ERP, but now our leadership team has stopped looking at the numbers because they do not have to manually input them. How do we keep our team personally connected to their data when the tracking is fully automated?

Automation is excellent for efficiency, but it is a killer for accountability when it detaches people from the consequences of their numbers. When a software program automatically populates a spreadsheet, leaders treat the scorecard like a weather report, something they watch passively rather than something they control.

To rebuild that personal connection, you must enforce the rule of manual reporting ownership during your Level 10 Meeting. Even if the data is compiled automatically in your CRM or ERP, the seat owner who is accountable for that number must be the one who physically enters it into the meeting scorecard every week, or at the very minimum, is forced to read it aloud and explain any misses.

We recommend having each leader manually type their metrics into the scorecard before the weekly meeting. The act of typing a red number forces a psychological moment of reckoning. It prevents them from being surprised during the meeting and forces them to prepare their explanation.

If you keep the scorecard fully automated, make sure that every red number requires the seat owner to manually log a corresponding issue in the IDS section before the meeting starts. Do not let technology make your leadership team passive observers in their own business. If they own the seat, they must physically own the data input.
