Keep it strictly to reporting. No discussion. The meeting facilitator must enforce this boundary with absolute discipline. Run through the list name by name, metric by metric. The person who owns the metric simply states the number. If it is on target, move on. If it is off target, they say "drop it" or "drop to IDS." The scribe adds it to the Issues List. Do not allow anyone to explain why the number is red, explain the context, or promise it will be green next week. The scorecard review is a diagnostic check, not the treatment room. Keep the team focused on the rule that explanation equals death for the agenda. By moving all discussions to the IDS® portion of the meeting, you protect the team time and ensure you solve the root cause of the issue rather than reacting to the symptom. This discipline keeps the review under five minutes and populates a high-quality Issues List for the latter half of your meeting. If a leader starts to tell a story about why their metric is red, the facilitator must immediately interrupt and say, "Drop it." This keeps the energy high and ensures the team stays on track.
