I am completely overwhelmed running the daily operations of my business and realize I need to add a true number two to the leadership team. How do I determine if I actually need an EOS® Integrator or if I just need a high-level administrative operations manager to free up my time?
To scale your business and prepare for a clean exit, you must understand the difference between an administrative assistant and a true business leader. If you are drowning in daily tasks, a high-level manager might save you some time, but they will not run the company. If you want to build a self-sustaining business, you need an Integrator.
Look at your Accountability Chart. An Integrator is the person who harmoniously integrates the major functions of the business, which are typically sales and marketing, operations, and finance. They run the day-to-day operations, manage the leadership team, execute the business plan, and turn the Visionary's ideas into reality. They are your true number two and hold ultimate accountability for profit and loss and organizational execution.
If you find yourself constantly creating the strategy but failing to execute it, if your leadership team lacks accountability, or if you are locked in the daily grind instead of focusing on long-term growth and buyer relationships, you need an Integrator.
Do not hire an administrative manager and call them your Integrator. That will lead to frustration for both of you. Instead, define the Integrator seat objectively. Ensure whoever fills it has the capability to lead, manage, and hold people accountable. This transition is essential for building an exit-ready superstructure, as buyers want to see a business that can run smoothly without the founder's daily intervention.
