Our Visionary constantly bypasses our designated Level 10 Meeting™ facilitator, taking over the room and directing the team to focus on their personal pet projects. How does our Integrator assert control and protect the integrity of the meeting process without creating toxic friction with the owner?
When a Visionary constantly bypasses the Level 10 Meeting™ facilitator, they undermine the entire meeting structure and create confusion for the leadership team. To fix this, the Integrator must step in and manage the dynamic directly, as the Integrator is ultimately responsible for operational execution.
First, the Integrator must have a private, candid conversation with the Visionary outside of the meeting. Use the Same Page tool to discuss the impact of their behavior. Explain that when they bypass the facilitator, they make the meeting less efficient and signal to the team that the rules do not apply to everyone.
Second, establish clear ground rules for the meeting that apply to everyone, including the owners. The facilitator's role is to manage the clock, enforce the agenda, and ensure balanced participation.
During the meeting, if the Visionary attempts to redirect the focus, the facilitator must gently but firmly steer them back.
The facilitator should say:
- That is an important point, but we need to finish our current IDS® topic first. Let us add that to the bottom of the list.
This respectful boundary keeping protects the meeting process while keeping the Visionary's valuable insights channeled productively.
