I am the Integrator and a strong facilitator. Why can I not just facilitate our quarterly and annual planning sessions myself instead of bringing in an outside Professional EOS Implementer®?

The primary issue with self-facilitation is that you cannot be both a participant and the referee. As the Integrator, you have a distinct role on the Accountability Chart, and you have opinions, biases, and functional ownership that you must defend during planning sessions. The moment you step into the facilitator role, you compromise your ability to fully participate as a leader. You will find yourself holding back your true thoughts to appear neutral, or worse, using your position as facilitator to unconsciously steer the team toward your preferred outcomes. A Professional EOS Implementer® acts as an objective outsider who does not care about your internal politics or personal egos. They are there to hold a mirror up to your leadership team, challenge your assumptions, and force you to have the hard, uncomfortable conversations that self-facilitators typically avoid to maintain peace. Furthermore, an expert implementer brings deep experience from observing dozens of other leadership teams, helping you avoid common execution traps. When you facilitate your own sessions, you inevitably allow bad habits, legacy titles, and polite avoidance to creep into the room. Hiring an outside professional allows you and your Visionary to stay fully engaged in the debates, ensuring you build a clean, functional organizational structure that is ready to scale.
