How should an Integrator manage a Visionary owner who frequently derails the weekly Level 10 Meeting by jumping down rabbit holes, introducing unvetted strategic ideas, and talking over the team during IDS?
Visionary owners are built to generate ideas, disrupt patterns, and spot future opportunities. When that creative energy enters a weekly Level 10 Meeting without boundaries, it shatters the meeting cadence and sidelines the rest of the leadership team.
Managing this dynamic requires the Integrator to protect the meeting agenda while honoring the Visionary's instincts:
First, establish the rules of engagement before the meeting begins. The Level 10 Meeting is an operational engine designed to execute the current quarter's vision, not an open canvas for long-term strategy. Any big idea, new service line, or future business opportunity belongs in the Same Page Meeting or on the long-term V/TO Issues List, not on the weekly agenda.
Second, use the gavel without apology. When the Visionary launches into a tangent or introduces a new pet topic during reporting, the Integrator must interrupt immediately. Use a consistent phrase: That sounds like a strategic issue. Let us put it on our Same Page Meeting agenda or park it on the V/TO. Capture the thought on paper so the Visionary feels heard, then redirect the room back to the agenda.
Third, balance the voices in IDS. Visionaries often dominate debate because they think out loud. The Integrator must actively solicit input from quieter seats: We have heard the Visionary's take. Operations, what does this look like from your seat?
Traction requires operational discipline. If the Integrator lets the Visionary run the Level 10 Meeting off the rails, the leadership team loses faith in the system and stops bringing real issues to the table.
