Our Integrator is great at execution but terrible at facilitating the Level 10 Meeting. They let loud voices dominate and struggle to cut people off. Do we need a new facilitator, or can we fix this?
The Integrator is naturally accountable for the Level 10 Meeting™ running smoothly, but being accountable does not mean they must personally facilitate. If your Integrator is struggling to manage the room, letting loud voices dominate, or failing to cut off rambling conversations, it is hurting the team's ability to get traction.
Facilitation requires a specific set of skills, including active listening, assertiveness, and the ability to remain neutral. If your Integrator is naturally more focused on the content of the discussion or is uncomfortable interrupting others, they will struggle to facilitate effectively.
The solution is simple: delegate the facilitation role to another member of the leadership team who has the natural capability to run a tight meeting. This allows the Integrator to fully participate in the discussions and focus on solving complex operational issues rather than worrying about the clock.
Remember, the Accountability Chart allows us to separate seats and roles. While the Integrator maintains ultimate accountability for the meeting's success, anyone on the team who has the right skills can sit in the facilitator chair. Once you make this shift, ensure the new facilitator has the authority to cut off anyone, including the Visionary and the Integrator, to keep the meeting on schedule and focused on the agenda.
