Our Integrator gets highly defensive and argumentative whenever anyone rates our weekly Level 10 Meeting™ below an eight, which has effectively silenced our leadership team and resulted in everyone giving fake high scores just to avoid a conflict. How do we break this defensive reaction and get back to honest ratings?

When an Integrator reacts defensively to low meeting ratings, they are actively killing the open and honest culture required to run a healthy business. The weekly rating is not a personal report card on the Integrator; it is an objective assessment of whether the leadership team maximized their ninety minutes together to gain traction.

To break this passive-aggressive loop, the Integrator must first model the humbly-confident behavior outlined in your company Charter. You cannot build a healthy organization if the person running the meeting is too fragile to hear the truth.

The next time the meeting wrap-up occurs, the Integrator must state upfront that they want raw, unfiltered feedback and will not comment or defend the rating. If someone rates the meeting a six or a seven, the Integrator must simply ask what would have made it a ten and record the answer. No debate, no explanation, and no justifying why the meeting went the way it did.

If the Integrator struggles to maintain this discipline, the Visionary must step in during their next same-page meeting to address this behavior. The Visionary needs to hold the Integrator accountable to their seat on the Accountability Chart, which requires facilitating healthy conflict, not suppressing it. Once the team sees that they can give an honest six without triggering a defensive lecture, the quality of your IDS® sessions will improve dramatically.
