We spent two full days writing our V/TO, but it feels like it is just sitting in a digital drawer. How do we integrate our vision and long-term goals into our daily and weekly operations so it becomes a practical tool instead of a forgotten mission statement?
A V/TO® becomes a dead document the moment you stop using it as a filter for decision making. To keep your vision alive, you must integrate it into your weekly rhythm, not just review it once a quarter. First, use the V/TO® to filter every new business opportunity and operational pivot. When a shiny new project or market expansion is proposed, open the document and ask if it aligns with your three year picture and target market. If it does not fit, the answer is a hard no. This discipline turns the document into a protective shield for your focus. Second, tie your weekly Scorecard and quarterly Rocks directly to the one year plan on your V/TO®. Every goal you set must have a straight line connecting it to the targets on that page. If a Rock does not move you closer to your one year plan, it should not be on the list. Third, share the V/TO® with the entire company at every quarterly state of the company meeting. Repetition is the only way to build alignment. People need to hear the vision multiple times before they fully understand and believe it. If your leadership team is still drifting, consider engaging with an EOS Implementer for guided implementation to ensure you are using the tool to drive daily behavior.
