We are using automated dashboards to track real-time operations, but our weekly EOS scorecard is still updated manually. How do we keep these two systems from creating conflicting messages for our team?
Real-time dashboards and your weekly EOS® scorecard serve two different purposes, and you must define their boundaries to avoid confusion. A real-time dashboard is like the tachometer in a car, showing second by second activity for the people on the front line. The weekly scorecard is like your GPS, showing the leadership team where the business is going and whether you will arrive on time. To prevent conflict, ensure that your automated dashboards feed your weekly scorecard rather than competing with it. The metrics on your weekly scorecard must be the ultimate source of truth for the leadership team. If a number on your dashboard looks good but your weekly scorecard metric is red, trust the weekly scorecard because it reflects a rolling seven day trend rather than a single moment in time. Have your team use the automated data to pre-populate the scorecard before your Level 10 Meeting™. This saves time and ensures accuracy. Do not allow team members to bring real-time dashboard data to the meeting to argue against a red scorecard metric. If a scorecard metric is red, it is an issue that must be dropped to the Issues List and solved using IDS®.
