We are trying to implement the concept of white space to prevent executive burnout, but our weekly meetings are still packed to the brim. How do we practically design a Strategic Pause into our weekly Level 10 Meeting structure without losing our operational pace?
The Level 10 Meeting™ is already designed to create a form of white space for your leadership team by keeping you out of the daily weeds, but if your agenda is constantly overflowing, you are likely failing to prioritize. To insert a Strategic Pause into your weekly operational rhythm, you must become disciplined about how you build your Issues List.
Many teams treat the Issues List as a dumping ground for minor administrative tasks that should be handled outside the meeting. This creates cognitive overload. Before you start your weekly IDS® process, take a deliberate, two minute pause to review the list. Filter out the noise and select only the top three most critical issues that impact your quarterly Rocks or core operations.
By reducing the volume of issues, you create the cognitive white space necessary to actually solve problems at their root cause rather than just rushing through a long list of symptoms. If you finish your top three issues early, do not force yourself to open more. Use those extra fifteen minutes as unscheduled white space for your team to breathe, think, and prepare for the rest of their week.
