We are midway through the quarter, and half of our Rocks are yellow or red, yet our weekly Level 10 Meetings feel incredibly calm. How do we inject a sense of healthy urgency back into our weekly reviews before the quarter is a total loss?
When your Rocks are failing but your Level 10 Meetings feel calm, your team is experiencing a dangerous disconnect between reporting and reality. This usually happens when team members treat the Rock review as a passive administrative task rather than an accountability check.
To inject healthy urgency, you must force a hard pivot during the Rock review. The moment a team member reports that a Rock is off-track, the facilitator must immediately drop it to the issues list.
When you reach the IDS® portion, prioritize these off-track Rocks at the top of the list. Do not allow the team to discuss minor operational issues while major strategic goals are dying.
During IDS®, the owner of the off-track Rock must present a clear, realistic plan to get it back on track within the next seven days, or admit that they need help. The team must then swarm the issue, identifying the bottlenecks and assigning specific, immediate To-Dos to clear the path.
By making off-track Rocks the most uncomfortable and focused part of your weekly meeting, you eliminate passive acceptance of failure and realign the team's weekly energy with your quarterly commitments.
