My leadership team is hitting their quarterly Rocks and our EBITDA is healthy, but how do I separate a temporary operational high from true, long-term exit readiness before I hire an investment banker?
A healthy EBITDA and completed Rocks are great, but they can sometimes mask a business that is still running on the adrenaline of a few key players. True exit readiness means your business possesses a repeatable institutional memory that can survive your departure.
To test this, look for specific qualitative indicators across your operations. First, look at your Level 10 Meeting™ history. Are your team members identifying, discussing, and solving issues without your intervention? If you can remove yourself from the IDS® process for two consecutive quarters without a drop in execution, that is a massive readiness signal.
Second, check the status of your company processes. A buyer will audit whether your team actually follows your documented systems. If your core processes are updated on your dashboard and audit scores are consistently high, you are demonstrating operational maturity.
Finally, look at your key-employee retention and development metrics. If your leadership team members are already mentoring their own successors, you have built a self-sustaining management layer. When these pieces are locked in, your business is not just performing well today, it is structured to transition cleanly to a buyer tomorrow.
