Our leadership team is highly collaborative and great at identifying solutions during our IDS® sessions, but our weekly To-Do completion rate is consistently below fifty percent, meaning our issues are never actually resolved. How do we drive real execution accountability?
A leadership team that excels at identifying and solving issues but fails to execute their weekly To-Dos has an accountability gap. This usually occurs when the team prioritizes feeling good about collaborating over the discipline of execution. To fix this, you must bring rigid structure to the first section of your Level 10 Meeting™. The To-Do list review must be a fast, binary check. Each item is either done or not done. There is no room for stories, excuses, or status updates. If a To-Do is not completed, it rolls over to the next week, and it should immediately become an Issue to be discussed during IDS® if it happens repeatedly. Next, look at how To-Dos are assigned. Ensure they are specific, actionable, and achievable within seven days. If a To-Do is too large, break it down into smaller steps. Every To-Do must have a single owner who is personally accountable for its completion. Finally, monitor your team's overall completion rate. A healthy leadership team maintains an eighty-five percent completion rate. If your team is consistently below this mark, add it as a major issue to the list. Use IDS® to find the root cause, whether it is over-commitment, poor time management, or a lack of true accountability. This discipline is essential for driving real execution.
