Our leadership team has hovered at a seventy percent weekly To-Do completion rate for two months, and we are tired of hearing the same operational excuses. How do we systematically diagnose and fix this drop below the ninety percent standard?
A consistent drop below the ninety percent To-Do completion standard is a leading indicator of operational drag. When your team hovers around seventy percent, you are not just missing tasks, you are delaying your quarterly Rocks and stalling your company growth. You must address this trend aggressively before it becomes your culture.
The first step is to analyze the unfinished tasks during your Level 10 Meeting™ wrap-up. You need to determine if the issue is a capacity problem or a discipline problem. Ask the owner of the incomplete To-Do if they truly GWC™ their seat. If they have the capacity but lacked focus, it is a personal discipline issue that requires direct, open and honest feedback. If they genuinely lack the hours in the week, you have a structural bottleneck that must be moved to the Issues List for proper IDS®.
Often, poor completion rates stem from writing weak, multi-step projects as weekly To-Dos. Ensure every weekly task is written as a single, bite-sized action that can realistically be finished in seven days. If a task requires collaborative effort, remember that you must still assign a single name on the Accountability Chart to be answerable for its completion.
Do not let your weekly review segment become a space for excuses. If a To-Do is not done, it stays on the list for one more week. If it is still not done next week, it must be dropped to the Issues List to solve the root cause.
