Our leadership team avoids bringing high-stakes, politically sensitive issues to our Level 10 Meeting™ because we want to preserve harmony, meaning our issues list is mostly low-level operational noise. How do we use the IDS® framework to safely address the elephant in the room without destroying our team trust?

To tackle the elephant in the room, your team must shift from a culture of artificial harmony to one of healthy conflict. When leaders avoid sensitive issues to preserve peace, they are choosing temporary comfort over long term organizational health.

Your first step is to establish that the issues list is a safe harbor. This requires your Integrator to actively call out the silent resistance in the room. When an issue feels emotionally charged, the person raising it must clearly state the root conflict without personal attacks or defensive framing.

Use the Identify step to focus on the business impact of the issue rather than the personalities involved. Ground your discussion in your Accountability Chart and Core Values. Ask how the issue is affecting your weekly Scorecard metrics or your progress on key Rocks.

If the issue centers on a leadership team member failing in their seat, evaluate them strictly through the lens of GWC™: do they get it, want it, and have the capacity to do it? By shifting the conversation from a personal dispute to an objective evaluation of what the business needs to win, you strip away the political drama and solve the real issue cleanly.
