When we run IDS® on chronic operational bottlenecks, our team gets bogged down in technical jargon and software discussions, hiding the real root cause. How do we strip away the technical noise to expose the actual human or process failure?

When technology is involved, teams often mistake a software glitch for the actual issue. They spend their IDS® time debating API integrations, software configurations, or user interfaces instead of looking at the human workflow. This technical noise prevents you from solving the issue at its root.

To get to the issue behind the issue, you must apply the three steps of IDS® with a strict process focus. First, when identifying the issue, ban all technical jargon. Force the team to state the problem in plain English. For example, instead of saying the CRM is not syncing, state that sales representatives are failing to log client follow ups within twenty four hours.

Once the issue is stated plainly, look at your Accountability Chart and your documented core processes. Ask who owns the seat responsible for this step, and whether the documented process was followed. Most technical issues are actually human issues in disguise: a lack of training, a failure to follow the process, or a seat that has outgrown the person.

Do not allow your team to buy their way out of a process problem with a new software feature. Solve the workflow and the accountability first. Once your human process is healthy and disciplined, you can then layer on technology to automate it. Stripping away the jargon ensures you are fixing the business, not just patching the software.
