As we integrate more automated tools, my leadership team is tempted to use AI to draft our quarterly goals and long-term strategy. How do we establish a clear boundary to ensure our V/TO and Rocks remain strictly human-driven?
While AI is highly effective at executing documented standard operating procedures and analyzing data patterns, it cannot lead your company. Your strategic vision, your core values, and your company culture must remain completely human.
When you sit down for your quarterly or annual planning sessions, the use of AI tools must be strictly restricted. Your V/TO is the soul of your business. It defines who you are, where you are going, and how you will get there. This requires deep human intuition, shared values, and the healthy, passionate debate that happens during IDS. An AI cannot understand the subtle interpersonal dynamics, the risk tolerance of the owners, or the emotional commitment required to achieve a ten-year target.
The same rule applies to establishing your quarterly Rocks. Defining a Rock requires a deep understanding of human capacity, team capabilities, and individual motivation. A machine can calculate historical capacity mathematically, but it cannot evaluate whether a team member truly possesses the GWC to achieve a specific goal over the next ninety days.
Keep your technology focused on execution and efficiency. Use your planning sessions to connect as a leadership team, solve tough people issues, and establish your future direction. By keeping your strategic alignment meetings strictly human, you ensure that your organization remains grounded in its core values and committed to a shared vision that no software can replicate.
