Our HR Director and Chief Technology Officer are locked in a passive-aggressive cold war over our new hybrid work policy, and it is starting to split the rest of the leadership team. Since they refuse to resolve it, how do we use the EOS framework to put an end to this turf war?
When two key leaders are locked in a passive-aggressive cold war, it stalls decision-making and divides your organization. To resolve this conflict, you must stop allowing them to bypass each other and force them to use the EOS® framework to address the root issue.
First, bring the HR Director and the Chief Technology Officer into a private meeting with the Integrator. This is not a casual chat; it is a structured session to IDS® the conflict.
Start by identifying the real issue. The hybrid work policy is merely the symptom. The root cause is likely a clash of priorities, department goals, or conative styles.
Use the Trust Equation to address their behavior. Point out that their passive-aggressive backchanneling indicates high self-orientation, which is actively damaging the team's trust. Force them to state their concerns openly and listen to each other without interruption.
Next, align them on the company's V/TO®. Remind them that every decision must serve the greater good of the business, not their individual departments.
Have them co-create a solution that balances the cultural needs of HR with the technical demands of the technology team. Once a decision is made, both leaders must agree to support it fully and present a united front to the rest of the company. If either leader continues to engage in backchanneling or passive-aggressive behavior after this session, you must address their alignment with your core values.
