As the owner and Visionary, I am currently running our entire sales department, which is blocking me from strategic growth. How do I transition this seat to a dedicated sales leader on our Accountability Chart?
Transitioning out of the sales seat is a critical milestone for any scaling owner, but it is often the hardest to execute cleanly. To do this without dropping revenue, you must first define the Sales Leader seat on your Accountability Chart with absolute clarity. Avoid the temptation to just hire a high-performing salesperson and hope they figure it out. You must map out the exact GWC requirements for this seat. Does this person have the capacity to manage a pipeline, train others, and hit predictable targets? Once you have the seat defined, document your core sales process. Do not let the new hire bring a completely different, unmapped system that you do not understand. They must run your established playbook first. When you hire or promote into this seat, use a ninety-day transition plan. For the first thirty days, they shadow you. For the next thirty days, you shadow them. By day ninety, they own the seat entirely and you step back. Track their progress using weekly Scorecard metrics like outbound calls, proposals sent, and closed deals. This ensures you maintain visibility without micromanaging their daily activities.
