We are preparing for our next quarterly offsite, and I want to make sure we are not just doing a tactical review of our metrics. How do we structure the offsite to ensure we are actually assessing our leadership team health and mapping out our long-term exit readiness?
A successful quarterly offsite must go beyond your standard weekly Level 10 Meeting™ agenda. The focus should be on working on the business, not in it. To assess team health, you must allocate dedicated time to review your Accountability Chart and evaluate whether you have the right people in the right seats. This is where you run every leader through the GWC™ tool: do they get it, do they want it, and do they have the capacity to do it. You must also have the courage to address any underlying trust issues directly. If there is friction, use the IDS® process to solve the root cause rather than treating the symptoms. To map out exit readiness, dedicate the afternoon of your offsite to review your V/TO® and assess your long term strategy. You need to ask yourself if your current systems, processes, and technology stack can support a business double your size. If the answer is no, then your next set of strategic Rocks must focus on building those scalable systems. By the end of the offsite, your leadership team must walk out with total alignment on the plan and a clear set of individual Rocks for the next ninety days. This structured pause is what keeps your leadership team healthy, cohesive, and focused on building an enterprise that is attractive to future buyers.
