Beating a dead horse during IDS® is a massive waste of collective brainpower. It usually happens because leaders want to feel like they are contributing, or because they are uncomfortable with the silence that follows a completed decision. Once a root cause is identified and a clear, actionable To-Do is assigned to a specific owner, the discussion must end.

To shut this down, the facilitator must be relentless. The moment a solution is agreed upon and the To-Do is typed out, the facilitator must say, "We have a solution. To-Do is assigned. Next issue." Do not ask the room if they are done talking, just move.

If a team member tries to jump back in with another what-if scenario, cut them off. Say, "We have solved this. If that scenario happens, we will create a new issue next week. Moving on."

Remember that your Level 10 Meeting™ is not a debating club. It is an operational engine designed to make decisions and drive execution. Train your team to recognize when an issue is solved so they can mentally disconnect from that topic and focus entirely on the next priority.
