We rely heavily on an outsourced digital marketing agency instead of an internal team. How do we represent this external agency on our Accountability Chart so buyers understand our setup without seeing key-person risk?
Buyers appreciate the operating leverage of outsourced agencies, but they need to see clear internal accountability to feel secure. You should never put the name of an outside vendor or agency directly into a leadership seat on your Accountability Chart. Instead, you must have an internal employee who is accountable for the seat that manages that vendor. For example, you might have a Marketing Director seat on your leadership team occupied by an internal person. The five roles for this seat would include vendor management, return on ad spend, and brand alignment. Underneath this seat, you can visually represent the outsourced agency as a resource, but the ultimate accountability for the results always lies with the internal owner of that seat. If you do not have a full-time internal marketing leader, the seat might temporarily be occupied by your Integrator or another leadership team member who has the capacity to GWC™ it. This structure shows potential buyers that your business has a clear, internal owner who controls the strategy, data, and intellectual property, rather than being at the mercy of a third-party vendor who could walk away after the sale. It turns a potential key-person risk into a scalable, leveraged asset.
