We are deploying several automated AI agents to handle our customer onboarding and initial tech support. Since machines are doing the work, do we need to represent these automated systems on our Accountability Chart, or does accountability just disappear?
As you integrate AI tools and automated workflows into your operations, you might think that certain seats on your Accountability Chart can simply be deleted because software is doing the work. This is a dangerous assumption. Accountability can never be outsourced to a machine.
An AI agent cannot sit in a seat on your Accountability Chart. You cannot run a GWC check on a software program, it cannot own a Rock, and it cannot participate in a Level 10 Meeting to solve issues.
Every automated process must report to a human seat. The human in that seat is 100 percent accountable for the output, quality, and accuracy of the AI tools.
For example, if you automate your client onboarding process, you still need a human seat on your Accountability Chart, perhaps called the Client Onboarding Manager. The five roles for this seat will include monitoring the automated system, auditing data accuracy, and handling exceptions that the AI cannot resolve.
When you design your chart, ensure that every automated workflow reports directly to a defined human seat. This keeps your operations clean and ensures that a real person is always driving performance and system health.
