We want to roll out our new AI policy without causing a rebellion or having our team ignore it. How do we introduce these new guardrails so that our employees actually adopt them in their daily workflows?
Introducing a policy should not feel like a top-down mandate that slows people down. If your team thinks your AI policy is just a list of things they cannot do, they will find ways to bypass it. You must roll it out through the lens of clarity and empowerment. Start by presenting the policy at your next State of the Company address or quarterly meeting. Explain the why behind the guardrails, specifically around client data privacy and intellectual property protection. Show them that the policy is designed to protect their jobs and the reputation of the company, not to micro-manage them. Next, run a practical workshop where you walk through acceptable and unacceptable use cases side-by-side.
- Show them how to use approved secure sandboxes.
- Demonstrate how to scrub client-identifying information before putting data into public models.
- Explain the verification process for AI outputs.
Make compliance a part of your daily rhythm. If someone violates the policy, address it immediately in your weekly Level 10 Meeting using the IDS process to identify if it is a training issue or a GWC issue. When you make the rules practical and show how they prevent major liability, your team will respect the guardrails.
