Our weekly Level 10 Meetings are running over schedule because we spend fifteen to twenty minutes debating the stories behind our Scorecard numbers. How do we keep our weekly Scorecard review under five minutes without losing the pulse of the business?

Your Scorecard is not the place for storytelling or problem solving. The scorecard review during your weekly Level 10 Meeting should take no more than five minutes, and achieving this requires strict operational discipline.

The purpose of the review is simply to identify what is on track and what is off track. When you go through the numbers, the owner of each metric must read the name of the metric, the actual number, and state whether it is on or off track. There is no context, no explanation, and no defense allowed. If a number is green, you move to the next one instantly. If a number is red, it is dropped to the Issues List.

The temptation to explain why a number is off track is what kills your meeting momentum. The phrase to use when someone starts telling a story is drop it down. This means the Integrator or meeting leader immediately captures the off track metric on the Issues List to be solved later during the IDS portion of the meeting.

By enforcing this binary rule, you keep the review clean and fast. This discipline forces the leadership team to focus on pattern recognition rather than immediate firefighting, allowing you to spend your valuable meeting time solving the root causes of issues rather than listening to excuses.
